Honors
Weezer to Receive Billboard’s Legend of Live Award Weezer

Billboard has announced that Weezer will receive its Legend of Live award at the upcoming Billboard Live Music Summit on November 10, held at the 1 Hotel West Hollywood in Los Angeles. The honor is a career achievement award presented to artists who have made lasting, significant contributions to the live music and concert touring business, and it puts Weezer in some very serious company. Past recipients include Elton John, John Mayer, Usher, George Strait, Journey, Rush, and Ozzy Osbourne.

What makes the award worth paying attention to is what it actually measures. This isn’t a sales honor or a streaming milestone, it’s a recognition of touring, of a band’s ability to build a career on the road and keep it going for decades. Weezer fits that description cleanly. They have spent more than thirty years cultivating a cross-generational fan base, the kind that includes people who first heard the Blue Album as teenagers and now bring their own kids to the shows, and they consistently pack arenas around the world. Their most recent run included tours celebrating their 30th anniversary and supporting their latest release, the Gold Album.

The night itself won’t just be a trophy handoff. Alongside accepting the award, the band will sit down for a live, featured keynote conversation at the summit with Billboard’s Co-Chief Content Officer, Jason Lipshutz, which should offer a rare look at how a band that has outlasted so many of its peers thinks about touring. For the live music industry, it’s a fitting acknowledgment of a band that has quietly become one of the most dependable live draws in rock.

U2: The Greatest Show on Earth World Tour
U2 Announce a 2027 Stadium Tour and Their New Album, Carnaval de Luz U2 The Greatest Show on Earth World Tour

U2 have officially announced “The Greatest Show on Earth World Tour,” a massive stadium trek kicking off in February 2027, and they’ve paired it with full details on their 16th studio album, Carnaval de Luz, due November 13, 2026. It’s the band’s first album of brand-new original material in nine years. As we reported last month, the tour announcement was expected to land October 15 with the first leg starting in Mexico and South America, and that’s exactly how it played out. Multi-genre icon Beck is locked in as the primary opening act for the global run.

Live Nation has revealed the first six stadium dates, all of them in Latin America, with North American and European routing promised in the coming weeks. Early reports and tour rumors point toward European stops in cities the band hasn’t visited in a long time, including Athens, Greece, and Milan, Italy, though nothing has been confirmed beyond the dates below. Paid U2.com subscriber presales begin this Monday, October 19, with the general public on-sale following on Friday, October 23, 2026.

The New Single, “The Greatest Show on Earth”

U2 paired the tour announcement with the surprise release of the album’s title-track single, “The Greatest Show on Earth,” co-written with longtime collaborator Brian Eno. Bono told Rolling Stone it’s his favorite track on the record, calling it maybe the band’s greatest song in a very long time and saying it was a reason to stay in the band, a pretty striking thing for a singer to say about a group that has been together for roughly fifty years. The accompanying music video was directed by another longtime collaborator, Anton Corbijn, and filmed in the California desert. You can read the full Rolling Stone interview for the rest of the conversation.

Carnaval de Luz: The Full Tracklist and a Final Duet

The 12-track album is produced by Jacknife Lee, and it comes with some significant guests. The closing track, “Torn,” features Dolly Parton, and it carries real weight: it was the last vocal performance she recorded before her death in August. Co-written by U2, Parton, and Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid, the song is described as a tender country song about broken family ties, with Daniel Lanois contributing pedal steel. Elsewhere, Spanish superstar Rosalía appears on “The Mirror Maker,” Martin Garrix co-wrote “Glorify,” and Brian Eno co-wrote and played synthesizers on several tracks. It’s an unusually wide cast for a U2 record, and the Parton duet in particular will make this a very emotional listen.

Iron Maiden
Iron Maiden Extend Their 50th Anniversary With a Final North American Leg Iron Maiden Run for Your Lives Tour

Heavy metal legends Iron Maiden have confirmed a surprise 16-date North American leg of their Run for Your Lives 50th Anniversary World Tour, mapping out a spring 2027 trek that the band is billing as the absolute final shows of the multi-year celebration. Steve Harris admitted that the band originally planned to take all of 2027 off from live performance, but they enjoyed the massive crowds so much that they decided to build a three-band, all-British package and hit the regions earlier legs missed, with a heavy focus on the Pacific Northwest and the American Southeast.

True to the promise of the Run for Your Lives retrospective, the setlists will be a strict throwback. The band is pulling material exclusively from their first nine studio albums, spanning their self-titled 1980 debut through 1992’s Fear of the Dark, so fans can expect long-absent epics like “Rime of the Ancient Mariner,” “Killers,” and “Phantom of the Opera,” backed by the band’s most extensive stage production yet. It’s a disciplined approach to an anniversary tour, and it means every night is built from the era that made Maiden a legend.

The support slots match the nostalgia. Bullet for My Valentine, fresh off the release of their new album Social Apocalypse on March 19, 2027, join the bill along with The Raven Age, rounding out an all-British package that marks the first time since 1983 that Maiden has toured North America with an entirely British lineup. The closest stop for the tri-state area is UBS Arena at Belmont Park on May 11.

On Screen
“Billy Idol Should Be Dead” Tells the Story the Hair and the Snarl Never Did Billy Idol Should Be Dead movie poster

Billy Idol Should Be Dead is a feature-length music documentary about the chaotic life, meteoric rise, and survival of the 1980s punk-pop pioneer, directed by three-time Grammy-winning filmmaker and music video visionary Jonas Åkerlund. The film premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival before getting a wide release across theaters and streaming in early 2026. It follows the template of Idol’s raw, no-holds-barred memoir, Dancing with Myself, pulling back the curtain on the bleach-blonde hair and the snarl to show the personal costs of massive fame. You can watch the official trailer for a glimpse of its blend of rare archival footage, hand-drawn animation, and intimate rock history interviews.

The film’s central idea is a split identity: the psychological divide between William Broad, the man, and Billy Idol, the larger-than-life persona he had to learn to manage. It charts his evolution from the underground 1970s London punk scene with Generation X to conquering the United States through the explosive debut of MTV. It doesn’t look away from the darker stretches either, including a nearly ten-year battle with heavy heroin and drug addiction, with a stretch so wild that his drug dealer literally moved in next door. The story builds toward his infamous, near-fatal 1990 motorcycle accident, where Idol reflects on how his mother had to act as his nurse and how a doctor’s warning about his post-accident painkiller use finally triggered his path to sobriety.

What gives the documentary its emotional weight is the people around him. The film includes intimate, living-room interviews with his mother and sister, alongside reflections from rock contemporaries and collaborators including Steve Stevens, Miley Cyrus, Billie Joe Armstrong, Pete Townshend, and Nile Rodgers. Reception among classic rock fans and critics has been strong, with audiences praising its transparency, its dark humor, and its deeply touching segments exploring Billy’s complicated relationship with his father.

In the United States, you can currently stream the film for free on Tubi. It’s also available to stream, rent, or buy on Hulu, Apple TV, and Amazon Prime Video, and a special edition DVD and Blu-ray arrives November 3, 2026.

The timing couldn’t be better. The City of Los Angeles has just announced it is officially declaring November 13, 2026, as “Billy Idol Day,” right before he is inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on November 14.

2027 Tours
Matchbox Twenty Celebrate 30 Years With a 52-Date Amphitheater Tour Matchbox Twenty 30th Anniversary Tour

Matchbox Twenty have announced their official 30th Anniversary Tour, a 52-date North American run set for May through August 2027 and promoted by Live Nation. The tour celebrates three decades since the band’s start and honors their landmark, 12-times platinum 1996 debut album, Yourself or Someone Like You. Founding members Rob Thomas, Kyle Cook, Paul Doucette, and Brian Yale are hitting the road together, and the vibe is exactly what you’d hope for: nostalgic ’90s and 2000s pop-rock, built for open-air summer nights.

To make the run even bigger, the band is bringing a rotating lineup of special guests from the alternative and pop-rock world: The All-American Rejects, The Wallflowers, David Gray, O.A.R., Matt Nathanson, and The Lucky. Rotating openers across 52 dates means different cities will get noticeably different nights, which gives fans a reason to look closely at which bill lands near them.

The tour kicks off May 15, 2027, in Birmingham, Alabama, and wraps up August 12, 2027, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It leans heavily on outdoor amphitheaters with big lawns, the kind of summer venues built for rock bands, but it also includes legendary rooms and select arenas.

May 18Nashville, TN — Bridgestone Arena
May 22Morrison, CO — Red Rocks Amphitheatre
Jun 16Austin, TX — Moody Center

Aug 11Cuyahoga Falls, OH — Blossom Music Center

If you want a spot on the lawn or in the pavilion, the Artist Presale and the Spotify Premium fan presale both launch Tuesday, October 20, 2026. General on-sale begins Friday, October 23, 2026, at 10:00 AM local time through the official Matchbox Twenty website and Ticketmaster.

The anniversary celebration already launched with an intimate, exclusive full-album performance of Yourself or Someone Like You at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles. Across fan communities, the sentiment is purely nostalgic, with fans eager to hear generational anthems like “Push,” “3AM,” “Real World,” and “Back 2 Good” in an open-air summer setting.

Calvin Harris Announces His First Headlining North American Arena Tour Calvin Harris 2027 North American Tour

Calvin Harris has officially announced his first-ever headlining arena tour of North America. Produced by Live Nation, the 18-date spring 2027 run will take the Scottish DJ and producer across major venues in both the United States and Canada, kicking off April 1, 2027, at TD Garden in Boston and wrapping up May 27, 2027, at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California. It’s a significant milestone for an artist who has spent nearly two decades playing clubs, residencies, and massive festivals on the continent but has never anchored a full-scale solo tour of this size there before.

Harris is arriving with serious momentum. He recently set a Guinness World Record for the largest attendance at a single DJ set, drawing roughly 1.6 million people to a performance in São Paulo, Brazil. The format is built around that scale: instead of outdoor amphitheaters, he’s playing major indoor sports arenas, with room for the heavy, club-style visual rigs his shows depend on. Fans can expect massive production value, strobing visual installations, and an onslaught of career-defining dance-pop anthems like “Summer,” “Feel So Close,” “Sweet Nothing,” “One Kiss,” and his iconic Rihanna collaborations, “We Found Love” and “This Is What You Came For.” For the tri-state area, he plays Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia on April 8 and Barclays Center in Brooklyn on April 9.

Friday Night Lights Tonight

Every Friday at 9 PM EST, Friday Night Lights hands the show over entirely to one live release, played in its entirety. Tonight, that’s:

Billy Strings at Austin City Limits

Friday Night Lights · Live Jam · Austin City Limits

Billy Strings Plays an Acoustic Hour at Austin City Limits, and It Still Sounds Like an Arena Show

Billy Strings sells out arenas multiple nights in a row with a band that picks acoustic instruments, which is not supposed to be possible. Austin City Limits executive producer Terry Lickona has said he has been a bluegrass fan his whole life and has never seen a bluegrass singer and picker excite a crowd the way Billy does. Tonight, Friday Night Lights puts the proof on the air, with the three-time Grammy Award winner’s full return to the ACL stage.

The context makes this one special. Billy taped the hour on July 2 at ACL Live at The Moody Theater, his first full-band show of his own since breaking his leg in April. He came back with his four-piece acoustic band in classic picking session formation, Jarrod Walker on mandolin, Royal Masat on upright bass, Billy Failing on banjo, and Alex Hargreaves on fiddle, and nothing about the performance sounds like a musician easing back in. It is a no-frills hour, which is exactly how he likes it, because as Lickona put it, the whole thing is about the music.

Tune in tonight at 9 PM EST on Live Jam, or find the full details on the event page.
