ROCKLAND — Camden-based singer songwriters John and Rachel Nicholas are launching the Good Trouble Project (GTP) as a means of supporting peace, justice and environmental causes. The goal with the GTP is to produce several concerts a year and donate a percentage of the proceeds toward various organizations. The GTP is named in honor of the late Congressman John Lewis and his catch phrase of getting into “good trouble” to create change. And fittingly, the GTP’s first recipient will be John and Lillian Miles Lewis Foundation, to honor Congressman Lewis’ and his wife Lillian’s legacy.
The first show is Saturday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. at First Universalist Church in Rockland, 345 Broadway, and will feature Boston’s Dean Stevens and the Nicholases with special guests David Dodson and Lisa Redfern.
John and Rachel have been making music together for as long as they’ve made their lives together, and their unique brand of Americana, stellar song craft and soulful harmonies is emotive and inspirational. Their 2016 release “House Of Dreams” spent seven weeks on WERU’s top played CDs. Two songs from their previous release, “Here You Are,” won first runner up status in two categories of The Great American Song Contest in 2009. Their 2021 release, “Learning How To Walk,” similarly spent several weeks among WERU’s top 25 CDs.
Dean Stevens has delighted audiences of all ages for over more than decades throughout the Americas. An exuberant performer of distinctive style and wit, he combines an intricate, self-taught guitar style with a versatile and expressive voice. He has established himself as a formidable creator and interpreter of songs in English and Spanish. His own material explores a variety of personal and social topics, paints sketches of people and places, celebrates the Earth, and annoys the narrow-minded.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. There is parking behind the church. In case of inclement weather the show will be held Saturday, Feb. 4. Tickets are $15. Call 508-314-1506 for information or to reserve seats.
