LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro Police is investigating after a shooting involving police left a man dead Thursday night.

Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel said officers received a call about a shooting in the 2000 block of New Main Street around 9:56 p.m.

That’s in the Clifton neighborhood.

Shortly after officers arrived on scene she said they reported over the radio that shots were being fired at them.

Around 10:30 p.m., Gwinn-Villaroel said the person was shot around the 2000 block of Frankfort Avenue.

Officers quickly rendered aid but he later died at UofL Health she said.

The chief said LMPD is the lead agency in the case, and that there is bodycam footage.

“We are grateful that no one else in the community was hurt and that our officers were not injured,” she said.

An eyewitness told WHAS11 News that several shots were fired, but that they were given the all-clear.

David Allen, the general manager of Varanese Restaurant, said that shortly after 10:30 p.m. they went outside and heard a quick three to four shots fired. More police arrived, and a few minutes later, up to 10 shots were fired.

Allen told WHAS11 he could not tell who was firing the shots, but that police were all over the area.

No one was hurt at the restaurant.
