“Friend Of The Devil” From 1987 Dylan & The Dead Tour

The latest installment in the Grateful Dead‘s All The Years Live video series is available now on the band’s YouTube page. This entry highlights the Dead’s performance of “Friend of the Devil” from the penultimate show of the Dylan & The Dead tour on July 24th, 1987 in Oakland.

Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux offered commentary in the video description: “[The] Grateful Dead perform an upbeat, perfectly and smoothly executed Friend Of The Devil in the show’s first of three sets. This slower-tempo Friend Of The Devil, as compared to the upbeat rendition from American Beauty, was introduced in 1976, and was how the Dead played the song until 1995.”
