Last night, Phish, the legendary jamband, took the stage at Ameris Bank Amphitheatre in Alpharetta, Ga., for a show lush with big bangers, intricate improvisations, and the debut of a yet another song, this time titled, “…And Flew Away.”

The show kicked off with a “Kill Devil Falls,” fitting for the Peach State, as the band began to set the tone for a night of glistening music which also suited the venue and the energy of the crowd. The first set continued with fan favorites like “Theme From the Bottom” and “No Men In No Man’s Land.” Phish then showcased their musical prowess with a seamless transition from “Axilla (Part II)” to an embellished and juicy “Tube,” which featured a mesmerizing jam between Page McConnell–who dazzled the audience with his virtuoso playing, especially at the nine minute mark–perfectly synchronized with Trey Anastasio’s guitar.

Next came “Roggae“ before the band concluded with a jam of “Undermind” > “Prince Caspian” the latter of which had a unique approach with a somewhat down-temp feel. During the track Fishman’s vocals added an interesting twist, while Anastasio’s guitar work transitioned from licky peaks to soaring melodies. The unconventional nature of “Prince Caspian” jam kept fans on their toes and demonstrated Phish’s ability to constantly push boundaries.

Set two was filled with extended improvisations, starting with the fan-favorite “Ghost” and leading into an extended “Ruby Waves.” The note-worthy 25-minute rendition of “Ruby Waves” took the audience on a sonic journey, showcasing the band’s ability to build tension and release it with explosive energy. However, it is important to note that this extended jam is characteristic of the song, and some Phish aficionados are well aware of their penchant for exploring its musical depths. The second set also featured the captivating debut performance of “…And Flew Away,” solidifying its place in Phish’s repertoire. Phish concluded the evening with “My Friend, My Friend” which melded into a euphoric “First Tube.”

The band then encored with heartfelt renditions of “If I Could” and “Possum,” effectively leaving the night on a high note. Phish will perform at the Ameris Bank Amphitheatre again tonight and the day after.
