With the Fourth of July holiday in the rear-view mirror, it’s time to plow full speed ahead into the crazy days of summer. Several events are tailor-made for the hot days that await.
Here are a few things happening this weekend.
1. Fossils of the Finger Lakes
Who hasn’t spent a summer day looking for signs of that dinosaurs that walked the Earth? The Fossils of the Finger Lakes program is 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, July 7, at Wood Library, 134 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Fossils can be found in almost all rocks in the Finger Lakes region. Learn about the critters that left an impression and see fossils up close. You’ll want to go out and explore creek beds in the area. For details and to register for this or other Wood Library programs, visit woodlibrary.org or call 585-394-1381.
2. Music and dessert in Canandaigua
The combination sounds so simple but so enjoyable. St. Mary’s Church in Canandaigua is hosting the event at 7 p.m. July 7. Local vocalists and musicians will be showcased in performances, followed by dessert refreshments. The event is sponsored by the church’s Stewardship Committee. All are welcome to attend. For more information, contact Jean Mercandetti at Jean.Mercandetti@dor.org.
3. Community yard sale in West Bloomfield
Everyone loves a garage sale, and so make plans for West Bloomfield Historical Society’s two-day community yard sale. Organizers say hundreds of bargains will be available out front of the Society’s HQ with more inside, including special items, jewelry, books, and antiques. Also, historical exhibits, breakfast and lunch will be available. Sale hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 8, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, July 9. For full details visit wbhsny.org or Facebook West Bloomfield Historical Society, New York.
4. North End Gallery opening reception in Canandaigua
The Pat Rini Rohrer Gallery is getting bigger. The gallery on South Main Street, Canandaigua, is hosting the reception from 1 to 4 p.m. July 8. Refreshments will be served during the event, which is free and open to the public. The North End Gallery is located upstairs in a newly renovated space above the Pat Rini Rohrer Gallery.
5. Extended Warranty at the Central on Main
The southern rock and blues band takes the stage from 5 to 8 p.m. July 8 at the outdoor bar, food and live music venue between Simply Crepes, Bubby’s Tavern and Wally’s Pub in downtown Canandaigua. Before that, enjoy happy hour drink and food specials from 3 to 5 p.m. (also on Fridays) and a streaming performance of Phish’s Aug. 4, 2021, concert at the Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville, Tennessee.
6. Kane Brown in concert at CMAC
The country star will perform at 7 p.m. July 9 at Constellation Brands-Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center, 3355 Marvin Sands Drive. Colbie Caillat and Restless Road open the show for Brown, who is noted for songs such as “Heaven” and “What Ifs.” From CMAC: Due to an unexpected illness, Gabby Barrett is not able to make the July 9 show and Colbie Caillat will perform in her place.
