Twenty-five-year-old Nyiam Callender of Marc, Bexon, was fighting for his life in intensive care, contrary to reports that he had succumbed after a drive-by shooting on Thursday night, a family member has disclosed.
Callender and two other men sustained injuries from the shooting, and private transportation took them to the hospital.
“This morning, we received many phone calls saying our family member was dead. We started crying. After, we received another call saying he was in ICU, so we were in disbelief. We didn’t know what to believe,” a family member said.

“Finally, we got a call saying he was in ICU and needed blood,” the relative recalled, adding that the family would be grateful for any donations.
She described Callender as a cheerful individual who is fun to be around.
And the family member said she was unaware he had any issues with anyone.
She said Callender sustained gunshot injuries in a drive-by shooting as he and the two other victims sat outside a shop talking and laughing.
Police have urged anyone with information regarding the gun violence to contact the nearest police station, the Criminal Investigations Department at 456-3770, 456-3817, or the Crime Hotline at 555 for anonymous reporting.
